Is this course for me?

This course has been specially designed for those students who are interested in sports development, coaching and fitness and want to deepen and broaden their knowledge. Practical assessment includes organising and delivering events for local schools. You may also take the Level 2 Award in the Principles of Coaching Sport and the Community Sports Leadership Award.

What will I study?

The 7 core units are: principles of anatomy & physiology in sport, assessing risk in sport, training & fitness, sports coaching, sports development, fitness testing and practical team sports. Students will pursue the sports development, coaching & fitness route. The specialist units include nutrition, sports psychology, individual sports and organising sports events.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years

How will I be assessed?

By a variety of continuous assessments, both practical and written.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 A*-C / 9-4 GCSE subjects or equivalent including maths or English.

What can I progress onto?

Achievement will allow progression onto a Higher Education programme or employment within the Sport and Leisure industry.
