Is this course for me?

The Certificate in Education (Education and Training) is the required qualification for those who want to teach in an education and training setting in the post-compulsory learning and skills sector. Trainee teachers have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge and understanding to their teaching practice and receive regular feedback from their course tutors and subject mentor.

Some have had action research published in UCLan's acclaimed Through the Looking Glass journal.

Trainee teachers may also attend workshops as part of the College's Teach Education Plus Programme, with guest speakers presenting on a range of topics.

What will I study?

Modules include: Preparation for Education and Training; Curriculum Design & Assessment; Teaching Learning and Assessment; Developing Teaching Learning and Assessment; Action Research; Wider Perspectives in Education and Training; Teaching Practice of 150 hours.

How long is the course?

Full-time for one academic year. You will undertake two days in class and two days on your trainee teacher placement.

How will I be assessed?

Through formal written assignments, presentations and in your observed teaching practice. You will also be required to keep a reflective portfolio to submit at the end of the programme.

What qualifications do I need?

Five GCSEs grade 4 and above, a level 3 qualification, 150 hours of teaching placement and a satisfactory DBS.

Mature students with experience, a portfolio of work and employer references will be considered.

What can I progress onto?

Previous students have progressed to teaching in a variety of positions within the education and training sector. Trainee teachers have also gone on to study a BA (Hons) Education and Professional Studies (Top-Up)

Other Information

You will need to complete 150 hours of teaching practice. Candidates need to arrange their own teaching placement and have a clear DBS.

Course fees shown are per annum for University Centre courses. Courses lasting longer than one year, fees will be payable per year.
