Health & Social Care Lecturer, Tim Ablett has been using his skills and knowledge to do his bit in the fight against the Covid pandemic.

Tim has been volunteering with St John Ambulance since March at a pharmacy in Sefton, Merseyside to administer vaccines to locals.

The lecturer said: “It makes you feel proud that you’re helping people and they are so appreciative and feel like they can start to live their lives again.”

“It’s good to be part of the team and to have a sense of helping to get the world straight again.”

He trained in December 2020 on how to administer the Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines before starting in March where he has since administered the vaccination to over 200 people.

Part of his training was completing 21 hours of e-Learning about the different vaccines and how to treat people who may get allergic reactions.

“It’s good to use my skills and experience to do my bit and it allows me to update my occupational competencies as well and keeps me up to date with current practices,” he added.

The experienced health professional, who has been a teacher at the further education college for over 8 years, is also a crew member and trustee of Southport Lifeboat.

This means he is on call 24 hours a day for the charity offshore rescue service and is responsible for making the organisation as covid safe as possible.

Somehow in his busy schedule he has also managed to find the time to study towards gaining a criminology and law degree from the Open University.

Part of his course lets him explore further his keen interest in legislation which will in turn help him when teaching Health & Social Care students in this area.
