Level 3 Photography students Leah
Farrimond and Phoebe Burns received excellent feedback for their
professionalism and contributions to a recent awards event.
The duo made the most of their work placement opportunity to take photos for the Wigan in Bloom awards when they were approached by Wigan Council to get involved.
Together they set up the shoot, which included taking photos of award winners in a selfie board as well as individual shots with people receiving their awards.
“We were a bit nervous to start with as it was our first work experience. So we decided to be really organised and brought lots of equipment to make sure we had back-ups if there were any issues on the day,” commented Leah and Phoebe.
“We both shot different angles and worked well together in setting up. It was a good confidence booster as we got to meet lots of people and we gained lots of good feedback.”
The students indeed received high praise for their work from Wigan in Bloom Co-Ordinator, Paul Gallagher.
Paul Gallagher, Community Capacity Officer at Wigan Council said: “Leah and Phoebe were brilliant. It was good to see them suggest ideas, problem solve, be assertive and gain confidence during the day.
“They were very professional, friendly and engaging in their approach and worked well as a two person team and with the wider awards team. Lots of positive comments from officers and groups who were attending. They are a credit to the College, their tutors and to themselves.
“Well done for being a part of the Wigan in Bloom Awards 2021.”
Both learners are really enjoying their course at College, particularly the autonomy they have on choosing ideas for their work.
Phoebe, who has aspirations to become a fashion photographer added: “I love the freedom we get on the course as we get to make lots of decisions on what we do.”
Leah: “I love finding models for photo shoots and working in the studio is really good. We get to do all aspects of the setup from lighting to backdrops.”
