Is this course for me?

Access to HE Diplomas are well established, national qualifications which allow students without traditional Level 3 qualifications to apply for degree courses and enter university. The Science route is for those who wish to progress on to degrees which will lead to careers in Science and Forensics. It is recommended that you research your preferred career pathway very carefully before starting your Level 3 studies.

What will I study?

The course consists of 20 units of study. Both the Science and the PCE (Physics, Chemistry and Engineering) pathways share generic content. The Science pathway includes Biology content and this is replaced with further Chemistry, Maths and Physics content on the PCE route. Developmental skills around information technology, maths, research and report writing are embedded in to these courses. Units are chosen to give you a broad knowledge base and understanding to equip you for higher level studies across a wide range of qualifications.

How long is the course?

Full time for one academic year. Three days per week

How will I be assessed?

Units are assessed either through assignments or through in class tests. Assignments and tests are submitted and kept in an electronic portfolio of evidence that is internally assessed and externally moderated.

What qualifications do I need?

Biomedial/General pathway: GCSE Maths grade C/4+. GCSE Science/Biology grade C/4+. GCSE English grade C/4+ . No equivalents accepted except for Science where a BTEC Level 2 is acceptable. Physics/Chemistry pathway: GCSE Maths grade C/5+. GCSE Science/Ph

What can I progress onto?

Successful completion of the Access to HE Science pathway can lead to a wide range of science and science related university courses, including Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Health Professions and Forensics.
