Is this course for me?
Art & Design courses are taught by expert tutors with industry experience at the College's Centre for Excellence in Creative Arts, based in the School for the Arts. You will work on a wide range of projects, including live briefs set by external clients. You will also showcase your work to the public through exhibitions and competitions. This course provides an interesting and varied basic introduction to Art and Design. It will help you to develop your skills and confidence produce creative two and three-dimensional artworks. The main aim of this course is to develop both your art and wider skills such as employability and English and Maths, to enable you to progress to the next level course and in the longer term, gain future employment within the sector.What will I study?

Artists
Artists create artistic works using appropriate techniques, materials and media; design artwork and illustrations; and restore damaged pieces of art.
Requirements: Level 4 NVQ; Intermediate, DipHE, DipFE

Typical Tasks
- Produces works on commission basis for clients.
- Markets and sells finished work directly to customers.
- Liaises with writers and publishers to produce book illustrations.
- Uses artistic skills to restore damaged artworks.
- Approaches managers of galleries and exhibitions in order to get finished work displayed.
- Builds up composition into finished work by carving, sculpting, etching, painting, engraving, drawing, etc..
- Prepares sketches, scale drawings or colour schemes.
- Selects appropriate materials, medium and method.
- Conceives and develops ideas and ways of working for artistic composition.
