Is this course for me?

Bakery skills are in high demand in the food and drinks industry. This programme is designed for students who have a passion for bakery and confectionery, and are wishing to pursue a career within the bakery and confectionery industry as a pastry chef or baker. You will benefit from links with some of the finest producers of breads and confectionary including Morris Bakery and Hovis. Our hands-on courses provide the knowledge, skills and qualifications for you to secure employment in the food and drink industry

What will I study?

You will develop skills and knowledge of fermented dough products , pastry and confectionery and hot and cold desserts within our industry standard kitchen. Within the qualification you will also gain knowledge of the catering and hospitality industry, costings, and menu planning all the skills required to be a baker or a pastry chef within the industry. We will develop your creative flair within you and encourage innovation, enthusiasm and passion.

How long is the course?

Full time for one academic year

How will I be assessed?

Through practical observations and written assessments.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-3 subjects or equivalent.

What can I progress onto?

Employment within the industry. Progression to Apprenticeship or a Level 3 qualification.

Bakers and flour confectioners prepare and bake dough, pastry and cake mixtures and make and finish flour confectionary products by hand.

Requirements: Level 2 NVQ; GCSE at grades A*-C
