The business world offers many career opportunities.

Human resources, logistics and marketing are just some of the industry sectors open to business graduates.

If you want to develop commercial awareness, examining contemporary business issues, entrepreneurship, leadership and management this is the right choice for you.

You will develop the skills required for a rapidly changing business environment.

INDUSTRY RELEVANT

Tutors are industry experts, with backgrounds in human resource management, marketing, finance and leadership and management.

WORK PLACEMENTS

You will apply your skills and knowledge on a work-related placement in your preferred business area, developing the right skills and competencies for the workplace.

EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Guest speakers include industry professionals, from the Bank of England to the DWP, as well as local business entrepreneurs.



What will I study?

HNC (Year 1) modules include:

• Business and the Business Environment

• Marketing Processes and Planning

• Human Resource Management

• Leadership and Management

• Accounting Principles

• Managing a Successful Business Project

HND (Year 2) modules include:

• Research Project

• Organisational Behaviour

• Identifying Entrepreneurial Opportunities

• Launching a New Venture

• Managing and Running a Small Business

• Global Business

How long is the course?

Full time for two days per week for two academic years.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed via a range of methods, including undertaking your own research project, collaborative practical work and presentations as well as written evaluations and assignments.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 80 UCAS points.

We will consider mature students with experience, a portfolio of work and employer references.

Students must also possess a Grade C/4 or above in English at GCSE or equivalent and Mathematics at GCSE or equivalent

What can I progress onto?

You may progress to the BA (Hons) Business Management (Top-up) awarded by UCLan and delivered at the University Centre.

The course content aligns with top-up degrees at other universities including Liverpool John Moores and the University of Central Lancashire.

Students with a merit/distinction may study at leading universities through a top-up degree in subjects ranging from leadership and management to marketing, human resources and finance.

Other Information

You will be taught by tutors have extensive experience in business, from human resources to marketing, working with multinational retail clients including Tesco.

Importers and Exporters

Importers and exporters buy commodities from overseas for the home market and sell home-produced commodities to overseas markets.

Requirements: Level 3 NVQ; A Levels

Typical Tasks

  • Advises home and overseas producers on the likely future demand for their goods.
  • Carries out customs clearance procedures for imports, arranges their storage and delivery and sells them personally or through a commodity broker.
  • Arranges for shipment of commodities overseas and ensures that insurance and export licences are in order.
  • Obtains orders from buyers and arranges payment by bill of exchange, letter of credit or other means.
  • Investigates and evaluates home and overseas demand for commodities.
