Is this course for me?

This course is for any Electricians, who want to gain a required recognised qualification or wishes to update their training in accordance with national requirements.

What will I study?

This qualification ensures that you are up-to-date with the latest industry regulation on wiring and the safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. It covers the 18th edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, which came into force in June 2008. These regulations are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS7671).

How long is the course?

One evening a week for 6 weeks. This course has start dates throughout the year. Please contact the college for further information.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is via final on-line Multiple-choice exam

What qualifications do I need?

This course is for those who are currently working as an electrician.

What can I progress onto?

This is a required qualification of the industry.

Other Information

You will require safety boots and an overall for workshop sessions at the College.

Typical Tasks

  • Examines electrical plant or machinery, domestic appliances and other electrical assembly for faults using test equipment and replaces worn parts and faulty wiring.
  • Installs electrical plant, machinery and other electrical fixtures and appliances such as fuse boxes, generators, light sockets etc..
  • Assembles parts and sub-assemblies using hand tools and by brazing, riveting or welding.
  • Cuts, bends and installs electrical conduit.
  • Selects, cuts and lays wires and connects to sockets, plugs or terminals by crimping, soldering, brazing or bolting.
  • Examines drawings, specifications and wiring diagrams to determine the method and sequence of operations.
