Is this course for me?

This course will help you to develop the skills and knowledge you will need when applying for and working in the Care sector, including your skills in communication, problem solving, team working and time management should develop as a result of studying this course.

What will I study?

The course consists of 180 credits as part of your programme of study. The core credits are equality, diversity & rights, communication, health & safety, development through the life stages, anatomy & physiology, personal & professional development, sociological & psychological perspectives. Specialist credits include: health education, research methods, health psychology and dealing with challenging behaviour, nutrition, physiological disorders, caring for individuals with additional needs & infection prevention and control. You will also undertake Maths and English at an appropriate level.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years, including at least 100 hours work experience.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout the year by a range of methods including assignments, presentations, group work and projects.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 or equivalent including maths or science and English.

What can I progress onto?

We will support you in applying for places at prestigious universities nationwide, or in securing employment in the healthcare or medical sectors. There are a variety of career prospects and Senior Radiographers can expect to earn over 40k a year. Salaries for paramedics and nurses range from 22 - 35k. With experience and seniority, they may rise to 69k. Other career opportunities include Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs work in operating theatres), Prosthetist, Patient Transport Service Call Handler, Learning Disability Nurse, Midwife, Childrens Nurse, Neonatal Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Optometrist.

You should develop the communication and supportive skills that are vital for working in this sector. There are a variety of pathways that you may choose from. Generalist Medical Practitioners

Generalist medical practitioners diagnose mental and physical injuries, disorders and diseases, prescribe and give treatment, recommend preventative action, and conduct medical education and research activities. They work in hospitals or in general practice and, where necessary, refer the patient to a specialist.
