Is this course for me?

If you are interested in the study of human behaviour and interaction in social, cultural, environmental, economic and political contexts, this pathway is for you.

The humanities and social sciences have a historical and contemporary focus, from personal to global contexts, and challenges for the future.

What will I study?

There are three combinations of A Levels from which to choose:

Psychology

Sociology

History

+ a further AS Level in year 1

or

English Literature OR

English Language & Literature

History

Politics

+ a further AS Level in year 1

or

Psychology

Sociology

English Literature OR

English Language and Literature

+ a further AS Level in year 1

Following successful completion of the AS year you may choose to continue to study all four subjects to A Level.

However, you may progress with three subjects and retain an AS qualification in one, which will contribute to your UCAS or higher apprenticeship applications.

How long is the course?

Full-time for two academic years

How will I be assessed?

Through a combination of written examinations, coursework and practical assessments.

What qualifications do I need?

8 GCSEs graded 9-5 of which a minimum of 4 GCSEs graded 9-6 (including English, Maths and Science)

What can I progress onto?

The Pathway will prepare you for progression towards careers in a wide range of areas from the civil service to teaching, journalism or social work.

Our industry links and expert tutors provide the ideal platform for you to achieve the qualifications, transferable skills and confidence to follow a career in social sciences and humanities.

This route combines the relevant A Levels to improve your prospects for employment, or progression to a prestigious university.

As well as studying your core A Levels you will also take up a work placement to gain real industry experience.

Specialist Medical Practitioners

Specialist medical practitioners specialise in particular areas of modern medicine, diagnose mental and physical injuries, disorders and diseases within their specialism, prescribe and give treatment, recommend preventative action, and conduct medical education and research activities

Typical Tasks

  • Takes overall responsibility for, supervises and directs the implementation of care and treatment plans by other healthcare providers.
  • Prepares and delivers lectures, undertakes research, and conducts and participates in clinical trials.
  • Performs specialist medical tasks such as surgery, anaesthetisation and diagnostic or interventional radiology.
  • Provides specialist advice to generalist medical practitioners or other specialists.
  • Supervises patient’s progress and advises on diet, exercise and other preventative action.
  • Administers medical tests and inoculations against communicable diseases.
  • Diagnoses condition and prescribes and/or administers appropriate treatment/surgery.
  • Examines patient, arranges for any necessary x-rays or other tests and interprets results.
