Is this course for me?

Those who have an analytical mindset and would like to develop a career in engineering, progressing to higher apprenticeships or university.

What will I study?

You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the engineering and manufacturing sector.

• Working in the sectors.

• Developing an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products.

• Essential maths for engineering and manufacturing.

• Understanding materials and their properties, including processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality; the condition of materials; how these are managed; and materials testing methods and techniques.

• The basic principles of business, commercial and financial awareness, including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/ partners and resource allocation.



You will also complete a module of occupation specific content in Design Mechanical Engineering.



On your industry placement, you will work alongside professionals, possibly working on a real-life engineering project.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years.

How will I be assessed?

Through continual assessment using practical observations, written assignments, exams and an employer set project.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subject graded 9-4 or equivalent, including English, Maths and Science.

What can I progress onto?

You may take up a role as a design mechanical engineer / CAD (Computer Aided Design) specialist. Further study may lead to roles such as Manufacturing Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or Mechanical Engineer.



As the T Level is equivalent to three A Levels, you could decide to progress to university or a higher apprenticeship.
