Is this course for me?

Sport and physical activity contributes £39 billion to the UK's economy and the sports landscape comprises a wide array of sports organisations, ranging from large professional clubs, to semi-professional and amateur teams.

This course offers a combined pathway for those who want to progress in this industry from teaching, coaching, sports therapy or sport and exercise science.

You will learn the underpinning theoretical concepts relating to your chosen subject enabling access to careers such as sports marketing, coaching, athletic administration, sports medicine, sport promotion or sport psychology.

ALIGNED WITH INDUSTRY

Tutors have extensive experience in industry, from managing sport and fitness on cruise ships, to football scouting, sports massage therapy and coaching for Camp America. The course includes extensive use of GPS monitors, accelerometers and sports analysis software when working with athletes, ensuring learners are fully equipped with the necessary skills to be successful in industry.

INDUSTRY RELEVANT

You'll have the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications including: Level 3-4 nationally recognised qualification in Sports Massage. We may also fund a course of your choice in sports coaching.

WORK EXPERIENCE

You'll have the opportunity to network with professional sports clubs such as Leigh Leopards to work with elite athletes and local employers to undertake a valuable work placement.

EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Students have previously taken an annual trip to Europe with funding from the University Centre Advantage Scheme providing them with work experience.

Sports Massage

Year 2 Modules include:

Entrepreneurship in Sport Exercise

Strength and Conditioning

Exercise Physiology

Sports Analysis

Research Project (Pearson set)

Sports Rehabilitation



Modules highlighted in bold are mandatory modules. Year 2 optional models could be subject to change.

How long is the course?

Three days per week plus placement for two academic years.

How will I be assessed?

The HND programme is assessed through a variety of methods, from written assignments to coursework and practical sessions.

What qualifications do I need?

80 UCAS points or equivalent work experience.

Mature students with experience, a portfolio of work and employer references will be considered.

Students must also possess a Grade 4 or above in English at GCSE or equivalent.

What can I progress onto?

Careers in the Sport and Exercise Science industry include:

• sports rehabilitation

• sports physiology and nutrition

• sports coaching or

• PE teacher.

Or you may wish to obtain a full honours degree by joining either a top-up degree or the third year of a degree programme in sport science, coaching or exercise science at universities across the country.

Other Information

Tutors have extensive experience in industry, from managing sport and fitness on cruise ships, to football scouting, sports massage therapy and coaching for Camp America. Tutors also have up to date knowledge and experience of the latest technological developments and practices in professional sport.

Course Fees

£7500.00

Course fees shown are per annum for University Centre courses. Courses lasting longer than one year, fees will be payable per year.
