
We Once Again Outperformed National Expectations
14 August 2025100% A level and 98% of T level students at Wigan and Leigh College have achieved their qualifications, outperforming national data and placing themselves firmly on the pathway to their chosen destination.
This impressive performance also saw 88% of A level students and 75% of T Level students achieve high grades. Students undertaking T Levels in Design, Surveying & Planning for Construction and those taking a T Level in Education & Early Years achieved over 80% high grades, smashing the national averages and maximising chances of securing prestigious degree apprenticeship vacancies.
A Level student, Michael Bentham achieved an amazing three A Star grades and is progressing to The University of Manchester to study MChem Chemistry.


The former Culcheth High School pupil said “I am relieved and proud of myself and a lot of lot of hard work has gone into this. College has been amazing, and all my tutors have been wonderful. Studying at the Leigh Campus has really benefitted me a lot as it’s a close-knit campus.”
T Level Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction student, Jennifer Hewitt achieved a brilliant Distinction grade and gained a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Building Services Engineering with Ridge – a built environment consultants.
The former St James’s Church of England High School pupil said: “I have been fortunate to be in this position as I had a great experience at Dodd Group on my industry placement and now I have managed to gain a degree apprenticeship which is great development for my professional career.
“I achieved A’s in my first year and now an overall distinction grade so I am very pleased especially as I worked hard to achieve it.”
Kathryn O’Neill, Assistant Principal and Careers Lead at the college said: “High grades are becoming so important in securing next steps, especially as we see more and more students wanting to progress to highly sought after apprenticeship routes. Many of our T Level learners have been highly successful in securing these opportunities especially in construction and engineering.”
Students studying BTEC courses made sure they were not out done and similarly achieved outstanding pass rates and grades.


Madison Grundy achieved a Distinction Star, Distinction, Distinction grade in Animal Management and is now progressing to her fist choice university – Bangor University to study marine biology and zoology.
Principal, Anna Dawe said: “Our young people have shown once again the strength of academic and technical talent in our community. Some of the destinations our learners are progressing to are outstanding and they have bright futures ahead. We could not be prouder of their achievements.”
