New Apprenticeship Units to Strengthen Local Skills and Support Industry Growth
30 April 2026We are pleased to announce the launch of a new range of short apprenticeship units designed to help employers address skills shortages and upskill their workforce quickly and effectively.
Developed as part of the government’s apprenticeship reforms, these flexible units offer employers targeted, high-quality training aligned with key growth sectors, supporting both productivity and long‑term sustainability across the region.
The college has been approved to deliver the following apprenticeship units:
- Electric Vehicle Charging Point Installation and Maintenance
- Electrical Fitting and Assembly
- Mechanical Fitting and Assembly
- Solar PV Installation and Maintenance
These units provide practical, industry‑focused training that enables businesses to respond rapidly to evolving technologies and workforce demands, particularly in low‑carbon, electrical and mechanical engineering sectors.

As the North-West Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC) and a leading provider of apprenticeships and technical education, we’re committed to working closely with employers to ensure training meets real business needs and delivers measurable impact. These short units present an ideal opportunity for employers to invest in skills development, close critical gaps and support progression within their existing teams.
Funding and eligibility
The training can be funded through the Growth and Skills Levy (formerly the Apprenticeship Levy).
- Non‑levy paying employers may be able to access the units at no cost.
- Levy‑paying employers can use their existing levy funds.
The units are suitable for existing employees aged 19 and over, making them a flexible option for your workforce development across a wide range of roles.
