Students Explore the Future of Sustainable Construction with K-BRIQ®
18 June 2026As the North-West Construction Technical Excellence College, we understand that modern construction uses innovative technology including sustainable materials and advanced manufacturing.
Sustainability is quickly becoming one of the most important priorities within the construction industry, with innovative materials helping to reduce environmental impact and support the journey towards net-zero targets.
At the forefront of this movement is Kenoteq, a UK based climate-tech company that is transforming construction and demolition waste into ultra-low carbon building materials. Through its pioneering approach, Kenoteq is repurposing waste that would otherwise end up in landfill, contributing to a more sustainable and circular future for the built environment.

Our Level 2 Brickwork students were recently given the opportunity to explore K-BRIQ®, one of Kenoteq’s groundbreaking products. Made from 90% recycled construction and demolition waste, K-BRIQ® offers a highly sustainable alternative to traditional clay bricks, significantly reducing carbon emissions while maintaining the performance and appearance expected in modern construction projects.
The experience provided learners with valuable insight into the role that sustainable materials can play in shaping the future of the industry. By examining innovative products such as K-BRIQ®, students gain first-hand knowledge of emerging technologies, environmentally responsible construction practices, and the practical solutions being developed to address climate challenges within the sector.
Understanding sustainable construction methods is increasingly important for future industry professionals.
Brickwork Lecturer, Rob Brookfield said: “Opportunities such as this help our learners develop industry-relevant knowledge and skills while building awareness of how they can contribute to creating greener, more sustainable communities throughout their careers.”
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Lucy Black and the team at Kenoteq for generously providing the K-BRIQ® samples and supporting the education and development of the next generation of construction professionals.
Lucy Black, Head of Business Development at Keynoteq added: “We love to support education establishments and the bricklayers of tomorrow to understand the role the construction industry has to play in reducing its environmental impact.
“The construction sector is the biggest contributor of waste in the UK and globally and also uses an abundant amount of high carbon materials mined from the earth’s finite and precious materials. For the future of our planet, it is critical that lower carbon and more local and sustainable materials are used, as well as the recycling of waste materials into new products becoming the new norm.
“We look forward to visiting Wigan & Leigh College to talk more about the impact of our work next semester.”
