Level 4 Assistant Quantity Surveyor Apprentice at Pinnacle Construction Professionals Ltd.Megan Dalton, a former Cansfield High School student, has completed her Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying apprenticeship with employer Pinnacle Construction Professionals Ltd.
Megans hard work has certainly paid off as she has successfully secured a full-time position with employer, Pinnacle Construction as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
Now that began has graduated, Megan aspires to continue her career as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, she says “I would like to continue my role, gaining further hands-on experience and deepening my knowledge of the industry. In the long term, I aim to progress to a Senior Surveyor position with management responsibilities.”
Looking back at her motives for opting for the construction industry, Megan details “I had the opportunity to shadow a family friend in the industry, that experience really opened my eyes to the role of quantity surveying, I really didn’t know about the opportunities in the construction industry.”
Megan explains she was drawn to the role as “I’ve always enjoyed working with numbers and problem solving, so once I understood what a Quantity Surveyor does, it felt like a great fit for me. The mix of technical knowledge and commercial awareness really appealed to me, and the more I’ve learned since, the more confident I’ve become that it’s the right path for me.”
Studying a higher-level apprenticeship, Megan had undertaken her HNC in Construction and the Built Environment. Megan decided that an apprenticeship into the construction industry was the best route for her after already completing her a levels in Psychology, Criminology and Sociology.
Megan details that “a key highlight from college was the support I gained from my tutors, they have always been approachable and genuinely invested in helping us to succeed.”
She continues to say studying for her HNC was enjoyable and “it gave me a broad understanding of the industry beyond just building services, this helped me to see how all the different elements come together in a project. It was great to meet like-minded peers who shared similar interests.”
A key highlight for Megan whilst undertaking her apprenticeship was “getting the chance to work on the Everton Stadium project. It helped to bring a lot of what I’d been learning in the classroom to life and really reinforced why I want to progress in this career.”
Overall, Megan shares that “choosing an apprenticeship over full-time education was the best decision that I have ever made for myself and my advancing career.”
Megan has now completed her apprenticeship and gained some truly incredible comments from her end point assessment interview.
“Megan is an excellent communicator, very proficient in her day-to-day role. Her answers around diversity, contractual terms and constraints and avoiding conflict were the highlights of our discussion.
Megan was able to answer all my questions at pass and distinction level with no prompting, she is a proactive and experiential learner who has plans to progress on to a degree apprenticeship.
Megan is well on the way to becoming an excellent Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager and is operating at a level that meets all the requirements for a pass and distinction in this assessment.
