Modular Learning
BUILD YOUR QUALIFICATION AROUND YOUR LIFE
From January 2027, you can study select modules, rather than committing to a full course in Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Construction Management.
Designed with flexibility in mind, you can build your qualification around your existing commitments, whether that be work or childcare.
So, if you’re looking to upskill for a promotion at work, or looking to retrain in something new, then Modular Learning could be the right choice for you.
Explore module options:
Surveying, Measuring and Setting Out
This module is ideal if you are working in construction, civil engineering or the built environment or looking to progress into these areas and want to develop practical surveying and setting out skills that are essential across construction projects.
It is particularly suited to those aiming for roles in construction supervision, site engineering or civil engineering, as well as learners who want to build confidence in surveying techniques before progressing onto a Higher National qualification.
Measurement and Estimating
This module is ideal if you are working in construction or looking to progress into roles such as quantity surveying, estimating or commercial management and want to develop the essential skills needed to price work accurately and competitively.
It is particularly suited to those who want to strengthen their technical knowledge in measurement and estimating without committing to a full qualification, or for learners preparing to progress onto a Higher National qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer
This module is ideal if you are looking to strengthen your understanding of core engineering principles and prepare for progression into higher-level engineering study. It is particularly suited to learners with industry experience, or those planning to progress onto an HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
If you want to build confidence in scientific concepts that underpin modern engineering systems without committing to a full qualification this module offers a focused and practical route to upskilling.
Financial Management and Business Practices in Construction
This module is designed for those already working in construction or looking to progress into supervisory or management roles who want to build a stronger understanding of how construction businesses operate.
It is particularly suitable if you want to develop confidence in financial and business decision-making within the construction industry, or if you are preparing to progress onto a Higher National qualification in Construction Management.
Construction Environment
This module is ideal if you are working in, or aspiring to work in, the construction or built environment sector and want to develop your knowledge without committing to a full qualification.
It is particularly suited to adults who are looking to upskill or reskill, those returning to education after a break, or professionals who want to strengthen their understanding of how construction impacts the environment, society and the economy.
Build Your Qualification
Think of your qualification as building blocks. With eligible modular learning options, you can:
- Start with a single module
- Gain valuable skills and knowledge in a specific area
- Accumulate credits as you progress
- Combine eligible modules over time towards a recognised qualification
- Learn at a pace that fits around your life and commitments
This means you don’t have to choose between work, family and education. You can build your qualification step by step.
How is modular learning funded?
There are several options for funding your modules. These include:
•If you are working, your employer may fund your module to support with your career progression.
Self-funded: There are repayment options available
•The Life Long Learning Entitlement: The Lifelong Learning Entitlement gives eligible learners access to student finance that they can use at different times throughout their working life.
