Another Exceptional Year As Our Students Celebrate their Results

In our first set of results since being recognised as a Technical Excellence College we once again had an exceptional year. We maintained 100% A Level pass rate with 82% achieving high grades. T Level students achieved a 98% pass with an outstanding 87% high grades. The achievements of the level 3 students have once again outperformed national averages placing them firmly on the pathway to their chosen destination.

This impressive overall performance saw individual courses excel. A Level subjects in Art, Computer Science, English, Media and Sociology achieved 100% pass rate and 100% high grades and similarly T Levels in Animal Management, Textile & Fashion Maker, Digital Production and Health also scored 100% across both measures.

With such excellent results students are progressing to both university and into degree apprenticeships. The college was recently confirmed as having the highest progression in Greater Manchester into apprenticeships and the excellent T Level results are a major contributor to such strong destinations.  

A Level student, Ethan Rafftery achieved A* in physics, A* in maths and a B in chemistry which secured his place at his first choice university. The future physics researcher will now progress to the University of Manchester to study Physics with Theoretical Physics.

He said: I’m delighted with my results as I got what was needed to get onto the uni course I wanted. My physics teacher was really great in helping me and was so knowledgeable. I enjoyed the practical side of the course too.”

Kathryn O’Neill, Assistant Principal Student Journey at the college said, “High grades are a key element in securing university places but with apprenticeships, technical skills and work readiness are just as important. T Level students especially are able to demonstrate those essential technical skills and have been extremely successful in securing highly sought after apprenticeship opportunities.”

T Level Construction student, Briannah Cunliffe has already secured a lucrative degree apprenticeship with international engineering and construction company, Laing O’Rourke.

The former Outwood Academy Hindley pupil, who aspires to become a design engineer, said: “I’m happy with my results and excited to start my next journey. This course has helped me improve my problem solving and the more technical aspects of design relating to CAD. I have had lots of memorable highlights at college including meeting Andy Burnham on several occasions.”

As the Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC) for the North-West, we aim to offer high-quality, industry-standard construction training – helping students like Briannah become confident, employable, and connected.

Students studying BTEC courses made sure they were not out done and similarly achieved outstanding pass rates and grades.

This included Level 3 Applied Science student, Dylan Mckenna who gained a brilliant Distinction, Distinction, Distinction.

The future diagnostic radiographer is off to Keele University. The former St Mary’s Catholic High School pupil said: “I enjoyed both the medical and nuclear physics units especially. “I love nuclear physics so I’m interested in applying that knowledge into a medical field.”

Principal, Anna Dawe added: “Whatever the pathway, our students have excelled and we are so proud of their results. Achievement however is more than grades alone and we have had a wonderful day celebrating individual and personal achievements. Our young people have bright futures ahead.”
