Professor Jenn Hallam has been Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students at the University of Manchester since August 2025. A Professor of Assessment and Educational Advancement, Jenn previously served as Vice-Dean for Teaching, Learning and Students in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at the University.

A widening participation student from Rochdale, Jenn’s early experiences instilled a deep belief in the transformative power of education and the responsibility of universities to ensure every student can thrive. This conviction has shaped a career dedicated to breaking down barriers, championing inclusion, and delivering ambitious, sector-leading change.

Jenn is a nationally recognised leader in policy development, educational innovation, and crosssector collaboration. She has driven major reforms in assessment, advanced the integration of generative AI and learning analytics, embedded the student voice in decision-making, and shaped staff culture to foster excellence. Her influence extends beyond the University, contributing to parliamentary debates on higher education policy, advising national and professional bodies across health and education, and serving as a governor on civic and other boards.

With a disciplinary background in psychology, Jenn brings world-class expertise in psychometrics, mixed-methods research, and digital education. Her leadership has attracted multi-million-pound investments in research and philanthropic partnerships, enabling initiatives that have transformed educational policy and practice nationally and internationally. She leads with collaboration, and a relentless commitment to ensuring higher education serves as a catalyst for opportunity, equity, and societal impact.
