Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (WWL) faced significant challenges in training both new recruits and existing staff. They needed to provide upskilling opportunities to enhance the careers of their current employees and address recruitment gaps, particularly in specialised roles.
We have collaborated with WWL NHS Trust over several years to deliver tailored training programmes. Recently, we began offering a programme for Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Workers, designed to upskill existing employees and help them advance in their careers. This was developed in close collaboration with the WWL training team to ensure it met their specific needs and was delivered face-to-face on a bi-weekly basis.
In addition to the Senior Healthcare Support Workers programme, we have provided a range of other apprenticeships tailored to the Trust’s needs. These include:
- Level 2 Customer Service
- Level 3 Business Administration
- Level 3 and Level 5 HR Apprenticeships
- Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 Accounting Apprenticeships
We also successfully delivered Sector Based Work Academy Programmes (SWAP) in partnership with the Trust. These have combined pre-employment training at the college with work placements within the Trust, specifically targeting unemployed adults and helping them secure sustained employment.
The long-standing partnership between the college and WWL has yielded significant benefits. Our tailored training programmes have enabled existing employees to upskill, advance their careers, and fill critical roles within the Trust. The SWAP initiatives have been particularly successful, providing unemployed adults with the skills and experience needed to gain employment within the NHS. Through this collaboration, we have effectively addressed recruitment challenges and contributed to the development of a skilled and capable workforce within the WWL NHS Trust, enhancing their capacity to deliver high quality healthcare services to the community.
